Basic Bible Course 3

The Man before the Fall of Sin

In this course, we are going to deal with a few topics that concern our relationship with God, one after another.

In the first lesson, we examine what the Bible says about man before the fall into sin. Genesis 1 and 2 are, of course, our starting points: Chapter 1 describes the creation of heaven and earth and as the highlight, the creation of man, who is the crowning glory of creation.

Only to him does this apply: “And God created Man in his image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” (Genesis 1:27)

Of everything that God has created (including man) we read that it was good, or very good.

The creation of man is clearly distinguished from that of the animals.

Your response:

1. Creation is announced in a special way in Genesis 1:26 with the words: "   us   man". Here, God is taking counsel with Himself, but when He creates the sea creatures, we read only: "Let the waters swarm with the swarm of living creatures". (Verse 20)

2. Creation is also described as following a unique principle: "Let us make man in our   , after our   ."
It’s not possible to say that about a cow, or a horse.

3. All animals were living beings or living souls, but they lived by being created. With man it was different. His outer vessel was first formed by God with care, and only then did God breathe into his nostrils the breath of life. This is stated in Genesis 2:7: "And the LORD Elohim formed Man, dust of the ground, and   into his nostrils the breath of   ; and Man became a   soul."

4

In connection with the points mentioned above, we can associate some statements from the New Testament.

Your response:

Acts 17:29
1 Corinthians 11:7
James 3:8-9
But the tongue can no one among men tame; it is an unsettled evil, full of death-bringing poison. With it bless we the Lord and Father, and with it curse we men made after the likeness of God.
For man indeed ought not to have his head covered, being God's image and glory.
We are indeed God's offspring.
