Basic Bible Course 2

The Origin of the Bible (Part 1)

Among all books, the Bible holds a special place. Not only in terms of its content, but also in terms of its origin. Most books are written by an author in a relatively short span of time. Sometimes, a book comes about through the collaboration of several writers who cooperate particularly closely in this case. However, the case with the Bible is quite different.

We will examine this in this lesson, and realise that the origin of the Bible itself represents a miracle.

1

The Bible consists of many books, as can be easily seen from the table of contents. How many books are there?

Your response:

The historical books: Genesis
The poetic books: Job
The prophetic books: Isaiah

to Malachi

The Jews have their Holy Scriptures - our Old Testament - also divided into three parts. However, the division is different.

Your response:

The Law:
The Prophets:
The Writings:
Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and the 12 Minor Prophets

The division of the Jews can be found, for example, in Luke 16:16 and Acts 28:23:

The law and the prophets were until John: from that time the glad tidings of the kingdom of God are announced, and every one forces his way into it. (Luke 16:16)

And having appointed him a day many came to him to the lodging, to whom he expounded, testifying of the kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and the prophets, from early morning to evening. (Acts 28:23)

Another passage in the Gospel of Luke mentions all three parts of the Old Testament.

Your response:

And he said to them, These are the words which I spoke to you while I was yet with you, that all that is written concerning me in the   of   and   and   must be fulfilled. (Luke 24:44)
