The origin, education, area of residence, lifestyle, and character of the forty Bible writers we know are very different. This diversity was the topic of the first two lessons.
But their writings also differ greatly from each other. Even a single book of the Bible often shows a very diverse content.
When comparing the individual books of the Bible, one notices a great variety of content. There are history books, "song books" and other poetic books, books with instructions for worship, and more.
Your response:
The book Ecclesiastes is a book of wisdom. The writer seeks wisdom under the sun. He wants to fathom the meaning of everything with his intellect, but what conclusion does he come to?
When I applied my heart to know , and to see the business that is done upon the earth (for also there is that neither day nor night sees sleep with his eyes), then I saw that all is the work of God, and that man the work that is done under the sun: because however man may labor to seek it out, yet does he find it; and even, if a wise man think to know it, he will be able to find it out. (Ecclesiastes 8:16-17)
The conclusion of the Old Testament consists of 16 prophetic books. They have been divided into major and minor prophets.
We encounter a great variety in the prophetic books. The Prophet Isaiah writes in the most detail about the promised Messiah. That's why he is called "the Evangelist among the Prophets." A well-known prophecy about Lord Jesus says:
Therefore will the Lord himself give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will conceive and will bring forth a son, and call his name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14)
Other prophets, like Joel and Amos, emphasize the coming judgement and announce the day of the LORD. The Prophet Joel speaks several times of this day. One prophetic pronouncement says:
Yes also, what have you to do with me, O Tyre and Zidon, and all the districts of Philistia? Will you render me a recompense? But if you recompense me, swiftly and speedily will I bring your recompense upon your own head. (Joel 3:4)
We return to Isaiah with another prophecy, in which the incarnation of the Son of God is spoken of (Isaiah 9:6). What names are mentioned there?
