We have examined how the Lord Jesus spoke about the Scripture. The manner in which He did this, can also be observed with the apostles.
In this lesson, we mainly deal with statements from Peter and Paul. In doing this, we will find that they also have no doubt whatsoever about the truth of the writings of the Old Testament.
Several times in the lessons, reference has been made to the statement of the Apostle Peter in 2 Peter 1:21.
Your response:
In his first letter, Peter speaks about the workings of the Spirit of God in the prophets.
What does he say about this in 1 Peter 1:10-11?
... Concerning which salvation prophets, who have prophesied of the grace towards you, sought out and searched out; searching what, or what manner of time, the of which was pointed out, before of the sufferings which belonged to Christ, and the glories after these. (1 Peter 1:10,11)
The work of God that happens during conversion is described by the apostle Peter in these words:
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the living and abiding word of God. (1 Peter 1:23)
The proclamation that took place after the cross is, according to these words, "the living and abiding word of God". With the following quote from Isaiah 40:8, Peter makes it clear that the writings of the Old Testament are also the abiding Word of God:
Because all flesh is as grass, and all its glory as the flower of grass. The grass has withered and its flower has fallen ...
What is the continuation of these words from 1 Peter 1:24-25?
Peter mentions various incidents described in the Old Testament. It becomes clear that he regards these messages as completely true and certain!
In 1 Peter 3:20, he talks about Noah, the ark and the few people who were saved. For him, there is no doubt about the report from the Old Testament.
