When Adam and Eve sinned, they recognized that they were naked. Now they tried to free themselves from the consequences of the fall of man by making aprons of fig leaves.
But God cannot be satisfied with this human solution. Therefore, He pronounces the judgement on the serpent (and thus on Satan himself), the woman and the man. Sin leads to punishment!
With the judgement on the serpent and the clothing of man, God hints at the solution to the sin problem. Both are references to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
