The Apostle Paul tells the elders of the assembly in Ephesus that he "… testified to both Jews and Greeks repentance towards God, and faith towards our Lord Jesus Christ" (Acts 20:21). These two things are clearly distinguished.
We also find this sequence in the opening chapters of the first book of Moses, which we have used as a guide so far:

Abel demonstrated through his sacrifice that he could stand before God and come to Him on the basis of bloodshed.
Who had learned that before him?
Answer: the parents and .
Abel had accepted this lesson in faith and brought a bloody sacrifice.
What does the second half of Hebrews 9:22 say about this?
From a human perspective, it seems logical that Cain, as a farmer, would offer some of the produce from his fields, and Abel, as a livestock breeder, would sacrifice one of his animals. It is thus argued that both offerings were good in and of themselves, but it was Abel's faith that made his offering "better".
However, Hebrews 11:4 clearly teaches us that Abel offered a more excellent by faith. In other words, Abel's faith led him to offer a sacrifice that was in itself . This is consistent with the use of this word in the book of Hebrews. See also Hebrews 6:9 and 7:19,22 and 8:6 and 9:23 and 10:34 and 11:16,35,40 and 12:24.
