The Twelve Disciples

Simon Peter (4)

Three times we hear some very significant words from Peter:

Peter says to him, Lord, why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you. (John 13:37)

And he said to him, Lord, with you I am ready to go both to prison and to death. (Luke 22:33)

And Peter answering said to him, If all will be offended in you, I will never be offended. (Matthew 26:33)

But Jesus knows Peter and knows what will happen in advance. His response is: “Jesus said to him, Verily I say to you, that during this night, before the cock will crow, you will deny me thrice.” (Matthew 26:34)

The disciples are thereby given the opportunity to flee. However, two of them do not do this, and follow the Lord. They absolutely want to know what happens to Him.

Which two disciples are referred to?

Your response:

The one disciple is   . The other must have been John.

The other disciple, John, was able to simply enter the courtyard of the high priest. The doorkeeper did not hold him back, because he was known to the high priest. Thus, he went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest.

However, Peter stood at the door outside and John talked to the doorkeeper on behalf of him and brought Peter in. We can understand well that John helped his friend. But had he not done that! The consequences are severe.
