The Cross

Thank you for completing the first lesson! I'm glad you've answered the questions.

The Bible course will now proceed as follows: Each time you have completed a new lesson, and I have reviewed your answers, the next lesson will be unlocked for you. And after the fifth lesson, the little promised reward will come. There are also some questions at the end of this lesson.

Take your time while reading and completing each lesson. This way, you can remember everything much better.

The topic of today's lesson is the cross. Have you ever noticed where a cross can be seen everywhere? It is usually found on church towers. I would love to tell you what the cross means:

The Lord Jesus, the Son of God, was born about 2000 years ago. Perhaps you've heard that there was no crib available for the baby Jesus at the time. Therefore, His mother had to put Him in a manger. Normally, a manger is filled with fodder for the animals. Isn't it sad that people didn't have a better place for the Lord Jesus? You surely have a nice, cozy bed, don't you?

Like any other child, the Lord Jesus grew older and became an adult. When He was about 30 years old, He began to give many speeches and tell people about God. For example, He told that God is love and does not want people to sin (that means: to do evil). However, what He spoke about God did not please people. They did not want to be reminded of their sins. Therefore, they hated Him and killed Him.

Do you know how they killed Him? Did they slay Him? No, they crucified Him! This means they hammered nails through His hands and feet, and thus hanged Him on a cross. This caused Him tremendous pain. And there on the cross, people left Him hanging until He had died.

Why didn't He defend Himself? The Lord Jesus endured everything because He loves you and me. Through His death, there is now the possibility that you can go to heaven. Even today, every cross you see still reminds you of the death of the Lord Jesus.

Philippians 2:8

But I have another piece of good news for you: The Lord Jesus is not dead anymore! He has risen and lives now in heaven.

If you have carefully read through what I told you today, the questions that are coming up will certainly not be difficult.

And if you still don't know something, read the page again. The answers are hidden in the text!
