Do you know the names of these two men: Cain and Abel?Their story is in the Bible in Genesis 4.
And Man knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bore Cain, and said, I have acquired a man with the LORD. And she further bore his brother Abel. And Abel was a shepherd, but Cain was a husbandman. And in process of time it came to pass that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering to the LORD. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock, and of their fat. And the LORD looked upon Abel, and on his offering; and upon Cain, and on his offering, he did not look. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. And the LORD said to Cain, Why are you angry, and why is your countenance fallen? If you do well, will not your countenance look up with confidence? and if you do not well, sin lies at the door; and unto you shall be his desire, and you shall rule over him. And Cain spoke to Abel his brother, and it came to pass when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. And the LORD said to Cain, Where is Abel your brother? And he said, I know not: am I my brother’s keeper? And he said, What have you done? the voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground. (Genesis 4:1-10)

Cain and Abel were the first sons of the two people whom God had directly created. You have already read about this in lesson 4.
They were born after Adam and Eve were expelled from Paradise because they had sinned.
In Genesis 4:2, you will find the professions of the two sons.
Adam and Eve surely had told Cain and Abel how they lived in paradise until they were disobedient. They ate from the fruit of the tree, even though God had forbidden it.
For this sin, God had to punish them: Eve could only bear children with pain and Adam had to cultivate the ground with effort, which God cursed.
You can read this story in Genesis 3. Cain and Abel, therefore, knew the LORD through their parents' stories.
And you? How can you get to know the LORD? - By reading the Bible!
One day, Cain and his brother Abel wanted to offer a sacrifice to the LORD. Perhaps they were grateful that they were healthy or that they were doing well. They wanted to thank the LORD by giving Him something. They likely built an altar out of earth or stones and burned their offerings on it.
