Basic Bible Course on the Epistle to the Romans

The Justification of Abraham

Paul has proven that those who believe in Jesus are justified (that is, declared righteous) (Chapter 3:27 and 28). So, justification is without works of the law (Chapter 3:28).

If this is the case - then how does Abraham fit into the picture: How was he justified?

The answer is in Chapter 4. Please read this chapter in its entirety.

3

What happens to him ...

Your response:

who rejects the basis of faith and instead prefers to receive the reward for his works?
who believes in God, who justifies the ungodly on the basis of the work of Christ?
Verse 5: To him his faith is credited as righteousness.
Verse 4: To him the reward is not credited as grace, but as debt.
4

Abraham is not the only example of "justification by faith": David's words also prove it. In Psalm 32:1 and 2, he makes an important statement, which Paul quotes in verses 7 and 8.

What does the apostle prove through this quote (verses 6 to 8)?

Your response:

is the man to whom God credits righteousness   .
