The Acts of the Apostles - Part 3

Acts Chapter 15

Chapter 15 deals with a "church meeting" that was held in Jerusalem around the year 50. This meeting became necessary because a dispute had arisen in Antioch over whether or not non-Jewish Christians should be circumcised, and whether or not they should keep the Law of Moses.

Fortunately, everything went well. The truth of the Gospel was not tampered with. The church was saved from a split.

First read Chapter 15 and then answer the questions.

1

There were those who proclaimed that one must be circumcised and keep the law of Moses in order to be saved.

Who were these people?

Your response:

Verse 1:
Verse 5:
Verse 24:
Some from the Christians
Some from Judea
Some from the Pharisees
2

At stake here were the vital themes of the Gospel. This also becomes clear when you read Galatians 2:21 and 5:1-4.

  • It is not the grace of God and the keeping of the law that saves.
  • No, it is solely and only God's grace that saves the sinner.

Therefore, what are those who brought this teaching called?

Your response:

They are called   brothers. (Galatians 2:4)

3

When the problem could not be solved in Antioch, it was decided to make contact with the apostles and elders of Jerusalem.

This was a wise decision, which prevented differences from arising between the assembly of Jerusalem and that of Antioch.

Your response:

Who was sent from Antioch to Jerusalem?   and   and some others.

Who also went according to Galatians 2:1-3?

4

Initially, it was no better at the church meeting than at the meeting in Antioch. There was also a lot of arguing in Jerusalem at first.

Fortunately, it did not stay that way.

Your response:

Who spoke the crucial words?
