Basic Bible Course 1

The Bible

The Bible consists of two parts:

  1. The Old Testament: It announces the coming of the Savior.
  2. The New Testament: The main subject is Jesus Christ, who has come and will come again.

The Bible is also referred to as 'the Word of God' or 'the Holy Scripture'. It was written by men (2 Peter 1:21) but it was inspired by God.

The New Testament consists of 27 books: The four Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles, and the Revelation.

Please read carefully each question and find the correct answer by looking up the Bible verses given in parentheses. However, please do not simply write out the Bible verse, but formulate your own answer, except for question number 9.

In this course, there are frequent references to Bible passages.

Such a reference is mentioned in the introduction: 2 Peter 1:21. Can you find this passage in your own Bible? First, turn to the second letter of Peter. Your Bible has a table of contents that can help you find the different books of the Bible.

Once you have found the letter, you will see that it is composed of several chapters, which are divided into verses. The citation above refers to a verse in the first chapter, namely verse 21.

2 Peter 1:21 - The second letter of Peter, Chapter 1, Verse 21: “for prophecy was not ever uttered by the will of man, but holy men of God spake under the power of the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:21)
In other languages, this verse is as follows:

Denn die Weissagung wurde niemals durch den Willen des Menschen hervorgebracht, sondern heilige Menschen Gottes redeten, getrieben vom Heiligen Geist. (German)

Car la prophétie n'est jamais venue par la volonté de l'homme, mais de saints hommes de Dieu ont parlé, étant poussés par l'Esprit Saint. (French)

The division into chapters and verses of the books of the Bible is not inspired, but was introduced by people. The division into chapters took place in the 12th century and the division into verses in the 15th century. It greatly helps to find a passage in the Word of God again.

Your response:

Faithful is the word, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the first.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes on him may not perish, but have life eternal.
Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your house.
John 3:16
Acts 16:31
1 Timothy 1:15
