Sing to the Lord from the heart

We can demonstrate our happiness in various ways. For example, by singing. So, are you happy? Then sing. We didn't receive our voices only for speaking but also for singing. I hope you do this often. Maybe you don't have a nice voice. No matter, you can still sing! Sing primarily for the glory of God. Then you will find that through singing, you become even happier.

1

Only those who are redeemed through the blood of Lord Jesus from the power of Satan can sing songs to the glory of God. Only for him applies what is stated in the first words of Psalm 40:3.

Your response:

And he has put a new   in my mouth,   unto our God.

2

It is the same with the people of Israel. They sang for the first time after crossing the Red Sea. Now they were a redeemed people, redeemed from the power of Pharaoh!

How does the song start that Moses and the Israelites sang at that time? (Exodus 15:1)

Your response:

I will sing
for he is
The horse
has he thrown
into the sea.
highly exalted:
unto the LORD,
and his rider
3

Moses and the people sing, and Miriam and all the other women respond. This creates a call-and-response song on the shores of the Red Sea.

“And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the tambor in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambors and with dances” (Exodus 15:20).

What words does she respond with?

Your response:

  • for He is highly exalted:
  • has he thrown into the sea!
  • Sing to the LORD,
  • The horse and his rider
4

Does this mean that redeemed people are always singing? No, that is certainly not the case. What is written in James 5:13?

Your response:

Does any one among you suffer evil?
Is any happy?
Let him sing psalms.
Let him pray.
