The Bible Course for Children

The Old Testament

In the first 20 lessons, we have mainly dealt with topics from the New Testament. Now you should also get to know the Old Testament.

The Old Testament is the first part of the Bible. It was written before the Lord Jesus lived on earth. Just like the New Testament, the Old Testament is a compilation of many different books.

It begins with the 5 books of Moses. Moses was a man from the people of Israel and reports on

  • the creation of the earth
  • the first centuries of mankind
  • the Great Flood and Noah
  • the formation of the people of Israel
  • a part of Israel's history

Afterwards come many reports about experiences of the people of Israel. We would like to get to know some of these stories in the next courses.

1

Please open the Old Testament to Genesis 2 and read the first 4 verses.

Your response:

  • This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, on the day that the LORD God made earth and heaven.
  • God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because on it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
  • Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their host.
  • And on the seventh day God completed His work which He had done; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
2

Next, turn to Psalm 14:1. The Psalms can be found roughly in the middle of the Bible.

Read this verse carefully.

Note: The term "fool" here refers to someone who is NOT WISE!

Your response:

The   says in his heart: There   ! They have   themselves, they have committed abominable actions; there   , who does good.

Now we are going to read a Psalm together. The Psalms are a collection of poems and songs. In them, men who loved God share all of the things they have experienced with Him. We will now turn to perhaps the most well-known Psalm.

You might be familiar with it, it is: Psalm 23.

Your response:

On which page of the Bible is Psalm 23 approximately?   .
(The exact page number obviously depends on the edition of the Bible...)
